St. Symphorosa Parish Lectors join themselves to an ancient tradition in Jewish life that sees no more worthy occupation than the study and service of God as experienced in the sacred texts. Lectors believe that God’s words find their fullest expression in one perfect Word: the Word made flesh, Jesus the Christ.
Lectors should possess basic communication abilities so that they may worthily proclaim God’s word. Our Lectors are encouraged to study the readings for several days before their assigned liturgy. The Lectors read the passages over and over in order to develop a sense of the flow of the passage. Typical time commitment for weekend Lectors is twice a month. Weekday Lectors usually serve once or twice a week. Training for this ministry is provided through the Vicariate V Ministry Commission. Acceptance into the role of St. Symphorosa Lector is by the parish staff.
